Too many questions to answer all individually. I have a new Sony head unit and Sony Xplode amp and Sony 6.5" ES speakers. I took the Bose enclosures out and replaced with the factory inserts. The baffles I used are foam and seal the rim of the speaker against the edge of the insert. They enclose the entire back side of the speaker(magnet etc)like it is sitting in a cup. So I don't think the seal is the issue. I just woried that the air space on the back side of the speaker (inside the baffle) may not be mathced to the speaker. In order to get any base, I have to boost the low EQ frequencies way up and they still sound muddled. I guess I am just a little disappointed that I don't get better sound than the factory stuff (say what you will about Sony they are still better than the Bose set up. I have not tried running without the baffles enclosed around the speaker (but still used to seal the edge) to see if they perform better with the whole door volume.
